Bristol Manor Farm handed high-flying new boys Blackfield & Langley just their third defeat of the season in a very closely-fought encounter played in strong, blustery winds.
Both teams remained tight and well-organised throughout and chances were few and far between during a first half in which both sides somewhat cancelled each other out.
Ashley Kington hit a good volley in the 20th minute which Langley ‘keeper Lewis Noice did well to smother at the second attempt. Then, Blackfield & Langley were unlucky to see a shot hit the foot of the Manor Farm post.
Five minutes later Lewis Bamford laid a nice ball off for Troy Simpson who shot just over the bar.
In defence, Martin Stowell impressed on his second debut for the Farm since his midweek return from a stint at Odd Down – the centre half did particularly well just before the half-hour mark when he raced back to clear behind the lines with keeper Ben John out of his goals.
Ashley Kington scored what proved to be the winner for Manor Farm ten minutes into the second half when he crashed a spectacular 25 yard free kick in off the underside of the crossbar.
Blackfield & Langley battled back looking to gain parity but must have known it wasn’t to be their day when Ben John did brilliantly well to tip over a rasping, goal-bound drive in the 88th minute.
