Bristol Manor Farm 0 Wealdstone 0
Bristol Manor Farm both rode their luck but defended heroically at times to earn
themselves a replay at National League South leaders Wealdstone.
During a tense opening half an hour, Joe Tumelty took a shot on the turn, Lewis
Leigh-Gilchrist had a snap-shot well saved by Stones ‘keeper Aston Oxborough
and for the visitors Ross Lafayette blasted into the side-netting after finding
space in the inside left channel.
Ben John had to save well twice as his penalty area came under increasing
‘Royals’ pressure but the Farm ‘keeper was rooted to the spot with a minute left
in the half as Connor Smith saw his header from a corner bounce back off a
The best chance of the game came just before the hour mark when the referee
awarded a penalty for Wealdstone. After a short delay Lafayette blasted his spot
kick low down the middle and John gratefully smothered it.
Clearly lifted by the reprieve, Manor Farm began to express themselves more
with midfielder Jay Adams shooting just wide of the far post a minute later up
the other end.
Farm skipper Steve Kingdon ultimately led the resistance by example,
producing a great double-block in the 66 th minute and clearing off the line from
Dennon Lewis who had looked certain to snatch a late winner. Farm can be
proud of their efforts and thoroughly deserve a second bite of the cherry this
coming Tuesday night.
