It is with deep sadness that Bristol Manor Farm Football Club announces the passing of our former Chairman, Alex Thomas.
Alex was a figure of immense influence at The Farm, serving as Chairman from the start of the 1984/85 season, then known as the Great Mills Western League (Premier Division), until 1992. His dedication and passion for the club left an indelible mark on its history and laid the groundwork for the success we all enjoy today.
Thomas’s tenure as Chairman began with an immediate impact. In his first year at the helm, he was awarded the ‘Clubman of the Year’ award as a testament to his unwavering commitment to Bristol Manor Farm from the outset. For those who are newer to the Farmy Army, Thomas played a pivotal role in securing floodlights for the club for the first time in its history—an achievement that was crucial in enabling the club to progress through the leagues. The vision he shared, along with others at the club, was instrumental in setting the foundation for the club’s future successes.
During his time as Chairman, Thomas worked closely with the then first-team manager Mike ‘Mini’ Fisher, who remains a regular at The Creek today. Under their stewardship, the club consistently challenged at the top end of the division, and the legacy of their hard work and dedication still resonates with everyone associated with The Farm.
Current long-serving manager, Lee Lashenko, fondly remembers Alex Thomas as both a mentor and a friend. “Alex was a great friend and a true football person,” Lee said. “He was one of the people who helped bring me to The Farm, and his passion for this club was infectious. Alex, alongside our beloved Geoff Sellek, had a vision for this club to achieve Southern League football. I’m proud to have been a part of fulfilling that vision, but it would not have been possible without the foundations Alex laid during his time as Chairman.”
As we mourn the loss of Alex Thomas, everyone at Bristol Manor Farm Football Club extends their heartfelt condolences to his family. We are extremely grateful for everything Alex did for us, and without his tireless efforts and visionary leadership, Bristol Manor Farm would not be the club it is today.
