MATCH REPORT: Willand Rovers 1-2 Bristol Manor Farm

Bristol Manor Farm secured their first away win of the season as they withstood heavy Willand pressure to take all three points at Silver Street, writes Jack Davies.

The Portwaymen were looking to bounce back from their 3-1 loss at the weekend, and it took just four minutes to lift the players spirits when Lewis Leigh-Gilchrist smashed home the match’s opener. Theo Llewellyn snatched the ball and released Kyle Tooze, leaving two players for dead in the process, and his perfect cutback was emphatically finished by Leigh-Gilchrist.

Jayden Nielsen was the next Farm player to try his luck, turning into space before his shot was saved by Willand keeper George Burton.

Manor Farm were turning the screw as the game ticked on, Leigh-Gilchrist turning provider this time as he flicked the ball though to Owen Howe, but a superb recovery tackle by Ryan Guppy left him unable to get a firm connection on his effort.

Leigh-Gilchrist was having a fine first-half, his next involvement was collecting a Howe knock back but this time he could only fire wide.

Farm would capitalise in their first-half excellence midway through it, the brilliant Tooze spun Alfie Toland twice before the defender hauled him down inside the box. Howe dutifully hammered the spot kick in for his ninth of the season.

Willand ought to have levelled just before the break, Stuart Broker went through on goal but he put his effort wide. The home side would also have the final effort of the first half, a rasping drive from Archie Reay was tipped over by Ben John.

The home side came out of the traps flying, and forward Reay forced John into a smart save before Josh Ford cleared two strikes from in front of the experienced keeper.

Lee Lashenko’s Manor Farm still posed a threat on the counter, first Ben Bament put an effort over after a low cross from Aron Robbins, and then Howe found himself through on goal but lacked his usual composure when he too fired over.

That miss would prove costly after 70 minutes, Robbins caught by the overlap and Louis Jagger Cane arrived at the back post to score with his first touch to get Willand back in the game.

An already fiery affair threatened to boil over shortly after, Neilson punished for a foul but despite the whistle being blown, Toland flew through the back of Kyle Tooze as the ball went loose. The defender was only shown yellow and two more players were booked for the handbags.

Farm fully had their backs against the wall late on, Steve Kingdon and Josh Ford heading and clearing dangerous crosses away time after time and John making several smart saves, the best of which from a cross-cum-shot by Jagger Cane which he parried both away from goal and away from onrushing strikers.

The six minutes of added time felt like an eternity, Kingdon again on hand to block from Bowker before Guppy headed a last-minute chance just over.

MATCH REPORT: U18s fall to defeat in FA Youth Cup

Mangotsfield United withstand Manor Farm fightback in stunning contest

On Monday evening, the U18’s travelled to Cossham Street to take on David Hockaday’s Mangotsfield United in what proved to be an extraordinary tie.

Keen to dictate the pace of the game, Hockaday’s side quickly looked to establish themselves on the front foot, with a well drilled Manor Farm seeking to counter.

In the 17th minute, a well-timed overlapping run from the Mangotsfield fullback breached the Manor Farm back line, but the resulting shot was well blocked by Captain, Stenner. Further pressure led to a flurry of corners for Mangotsfield, but to their credit, Manor Farm remained compact to neutralise the threat.

In the 38th minute, having intercepted a rare loose ball played by the Mangotsfield midfield, dangerous Manor Farm Number 10, Thomas, drove past the oncoming runner, before ripping the ball through to the advancing Tierney, who tested the Mangotsfield goalkeeper.

On the stroke of half-time, a great move by Mangotsfield led to the ball being hurtled across the face of goal and into the path of the oncoming runner, who smashed the ball past goalkeeper, Russell. 1-0 Mangotsfield at the break.

The next 20 minutes to follow was breathtaking. In top gear and refusing to wilt, Manor Farm attacked Mangotsfield relentlessly. The game was now completely in the balance, as both teams moved the ball rapidly in transition.

In the 62nd minute, having linked well with Pollinger, Thomas played in Manor Farm Number 9, Jenkins, who was brought down in the box. Penalty Manor Farm. Jenkins buried the ball from the spot. 1-1.

In the 65th minute, and against the run of play, a mix up between centre back and goalkeeper resulted in a headed own goal. 2-1 Mangotsfield. Just seconds later, Tierney, who had been devastating during this period, played Jenkins in again, who forced an outstanding save from the Mangotsfield goalkeeper.

As Manor Farm pushed to get level, to their credit, Mangotsfield exploited the space and played some scintillating football to stretch the back line, scoring from a set play on 74 minutes.

The club could not have asked for more – the boys are a credit to the club.

Melksham Town are the next side to visit The Creek on Saturday afternoon as the Farm look to build on their impressive score draw against high-flying AFC Totton. The match will kick-off at 3pm, and we can’t wait to welcome you back to The Creek.

Lee Lashenko’s Manor Farm made an early advancement into the play-offs after last Saturday’s result, picking up eight points from their first five fixtures. Their points total isn’t the only ‘eight’ they’ve scored this season, with striker Owen Howe leading the divisions top scoring charts with eight goals already to his name.

Richard Fey’s Melksham Town are currently in 15th position, picking up three points form their opening four matches. Last time out, they rued missed chances as they were defeated 3-0 by Frome Town. Despite the differences in league positions, Saturday will be another big test this season – with the Farm failing to beat the Town in their last five encounters.

MATCH REPORT: Bristol Manor Farm 2-0 Mangotsfield United

Derby day delight for Lee Lashenko’s Bristol Manor Farm as they further increase Mangotsfield’s woes with a 2-0 victory courtesy of goals from Ben Bament and Owen Howe. Matchday reporter Jack Davies was back at The Creek to cover the action.

Mangotsfield were determined to bounce back from Saturday’s heavy defeat to Plymouth Parkway when they travelled to The Creek on Monday afternoon. Their first chance of the match came following a succession of corners with George Neill glancing his header over the Farm goal.

Their second chance saw home stopper Ben John called into action, saving smartly from Wayne Nderimani, after he’d cut inside to get a shot away.

Farm woke up after a nervy 10 minutes and nearly led in superb fashion, Lewis Leigh-Gilchrist with a sumptuous outside of the foot cross but Owen Howe could only head wide.

Then came the first highly-contentious moment of the game. Miguel Frecklington kicked out at Kyle Tooze off the ball, and despite the referee apparently seeing the incident, only a yellow was produced.

Farm kept coming as the game livened up, first Ben Bament collected a smart flick from Tooze his shot was saved and then Bament turned provider for Owen Howe but his shot was also smothered and held by visting keeper Cameron Pike.

The half would end in a stalemate but not before a but chance a peice for both side. Mangotsfield really ought to have been ahead when John’s brilliant reaction saved dropped to Liam Towler but he somehow put his effort over from 5 yards out.

Kyle Tooze had the last chance of a combative half, reacting to a flick on quickly and his unselfish option to square may have been the wrong decision and the ball was hacked clear.
Tooze was involved early in the second half too, at the end of a neat move but his shot snatched hide and wide.

Another chance came and went for Farm, a superb tackle from Tovey span the ball into Howe but his shot was well blocked.

Ben John that spared his own blushes from a Mangos counter attack, he slipped as he went to clear but recovered well to make an excellent challenge.

Farm finally led on the hour mark as the pressure finally told, Jayden Nielson with a superb ball wide to Tooze and his perfect cross was swept home by Bament.

The visitors then completely unravelled a minute later, first they were reduced to 10 and captain Mircea Ilea was sent off after his second booking in 10 minutes. The second of those bookings was for a foul of Bament and after he was fouled again a few minutes later. Leigh-Gilchrist placed a perfect free-kick which was superbly headed in by Howe, his sixth of an already productive season.

Farm were turning the screw now, Josh Ford headed just wide under pressure at the back post before Owen collected another excellent Tooze pass before his shot was well saved.

Bament had a couple of chances to get another, first a defenders toe nicked the ball away from a tap in and then he rose to meet a Dean Stamp cross but his header went wide.

The visitors settled despite the pressure and had a half chance to make it interesting late on, Joe Beardwell put a searching cross in on the counter and Ford did well to lift it wide as he was caught eye to eye with his own keeper.

Bament had another chance to get his brace as the game ticked towards stoppage time, a wonderful through ball from Stamp but his half volley went agonisingly wide.

STAR MAN, Ben Bament
